I’d like to recommend this interview in The Guardian from earlier this week about climate change. They speak to Kofi Annan, the former Secretary-General of the United Nations and the founder of The Kofi Annan Foundation, which focuses on sustainability as one of its core areas.Mr Annan talks here about the severity of the climate change problem, he shares his views of the so called climate change sceptics, he speaks of the opportunities on offer for the world to unite around solving this issue which stretches across all continents and cultures, and he highlights the importance of each citizen to take responsible action.
And he specifically highlights the current meat consumption and production as unsustainable saying:
The global livestock industry is indeed a major threat to the climate as it represents 14.5% of all human-caused greenhouse gas emissions according to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations. A growing population and a rapidly growing middle class are increasing pressure on the traditional protein sources, beef and poultry meat, making it more difficult to meet demand. We cannot continue the way we are producing and consuming meat.
